August Profile: Madeleine Bunbury
Madeleine Bunbury studied portraiture at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence for three years, after which she specialised exclusively in painting horses. Madeleine's love for horses and equine art started at a young age, inspired by artist George Stubbs, she spent her childhood drawing countless pictures of horses from all disciplines and her obsession with horses in art only became stronger with age.
Madeleine now lives at her studio in Wiltshire and paints life sized horses always from life. The horses either come to her studio and stand for their portraits there, or Madeleine travels around the globe to meet her equine subjects and set up studio wherever the horse lives. Her commissions have taken her as far as Argentina, America, India, Pakistan and around Europe, no distance is too far to travel to paint a horse!
Madeleine's notable commissions include paintings for HM Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William, The Sultan of Oman and HH The Maharaja of Jaipur.
Currently, madeleine is working toward an enormous exhibition called "The Great British Breeds" showcasing 18 of the UKs most beloved horse and pony breeds, each painting will be life sized, showing the variation of dimensions from the little shetland pony to the mighty Shire Horse, this exhibition will be raising funds and awareness for our rare native breeds.
