January Profile: Chloe Thornton

'I’ve been lucky enough to call rural Scotland home for over six and a half years, and during that time, I’ve worked in the rural sporting sector in various marketing and project management roles. My journey started with Country Sport Scotland, where I helped promote Scotland as a world-class destination for country sports. After that, I joined GWCT Scotland, where I focused on boosting digital engagement and strengthening relationships with donors and stakeholders. Now, I’m excited to be starting a new role at The Heather Trust, a charity that’s all about championing our incredible moorlands.

The Heather Trust has been around since the 1980s, originally focusing on balancing grouse and sheep farming interests. These days, the charity’s work has grown to highlight the wider value of heather moorland habitats. It’s all about finding ways to manage these special places in a way that works for the environment, the people, and the economy. I’m thrilled to be part of a team that’s so passionate about protecting and celebrating moorlands, which are such an important part of Scotland’s landscape and culture.

Outside of work, I love spending time in the hills, whether I’m walking, running, or out on shoot days with my dogs—two lively cocker spaniels and a very naughty teckel who always keeps me on my toes! There’s something so special about the sense of community and camaraderie you find on a shoot day—it’s one of the many reasons I feel so at home in the countryside and passionate about the sector.
