June Profile: Lucy Laidlaw

Lucy Laidlaw is a highly experienced marketing and communications professional with a passion for community engagement in the rural sector. With a background working with a diverse range of clients including high-profile brands, Lucy has honed her skills in developing targeted national campaigns.

After graduating from Aberdeen University in 2006, Lucy began her career in PR agencies before joining Buccleuch Estates in 2011. During her time at Buccleuch, Lucy was responsible for all communications and marketing across agriculture, forestry, tourism, property, renewables, and the sporting operation. In 2020, Lucy launched her own consultancy, Lucy Laidlaw Communication, focusing on helping rural businesses in Scotland build relationships with key stakeholders, build their market share and tell their stories effectively.

Lucy's passion for representing rural Scotland led her to join the board of Scottish Land and Estates in 2020, where she continues to advocate for the contributions of landowners and managers to their local communities and beyond. She is dedicated to ensuring that the vital contribution of rural businesses across employment, biodiversity, land access, wellbeing and climate change mitigation is recognized both publicly and politically.

Outside of her professional life, Lucy is mum to two young boys who share her love for the great outdoors and are pretty handy at beating too! This passion for nature and the rural landscape fuels Lucy's commitment to supporting and promoting the rural sector in Scotland.
